Grocery Shopping

My objective as a personal trainer is to get my client into the best shape of her life. My objective in this blog is to let you know that you are not alone in your endeavors to be a healthy, fit, strong and balanced woman. I seek to make a positive imprint on your life.

By making grocery shopping a priority, you are making your health and nutrition a priority.  Getting this errand in will most likely mean that you will be putting those important fresh vegetables and fruits into your system.  We need the essential nutrients and hydration that colorful vegetables and fruits provide in order to maintain a strong immune system (and good skin!) Fresh vegetables and fruits are harder to come by when we are on the run.

I have found that my week and, in turn, my life, are out of balance when I don't go grocery shopping for the week. Having healthy foods in the house means that I will have good options for each day. I have to take the time take the time to plan my mid-morning snack, lunch, mid-afternoon snack and to make sure that I am eating small meals throughout the day.  I find that most people often get home very hungry. The mid-afternoon snack is there so that you are still in control when preparing dinner.

I make Sundays my day to get ready for the week ahead. I go to Trader Joe's and the Farmer's Market and I spend the late afternoon preparing some healthy meals for the week. These meals, along with 300-400 calorie prepared salads from Trader Joe's means that I am not only saving a lot of money on food every weekday, but I am ensuring that I am getting healthy foods all week. Knowing that I am in control of what is going into my body allows me more space in my head to focus on work and my personal life during the work week.  Lately I have been checking out new and healthy recipes online on Sundays. The act of creating the food is just as fun as eating it!

I tried this colorful and delicious stir-fry recipe last week from the NY Times and will be making it again this week. So good!

I totally agree - when I have food in the fridge I make better choices and spend so much less! Living alone I think I look for an excuse to get out of the house and an empty fridge makes that easy to use. I started inviting friends over for dinner instead though. Last night I had a cooking lesson date. Fun!
